About the vacancy: The University of the West of England has a leading profile in planning research. The Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environment (SPE) is appointing a Research Associate with a background in environment and planning to support these activities.
This role is specifically targeted at addressing the challenge of creating more healthy, resilient and equitable places through both existing research activities and supporting grant applications.
The Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments has eighteen members of teaching and research staff and ten post-graduate research students. SPE’s research focusses on developing an understanding of how to achieve places that are environmentally sustainable, socially just and economically competitive. The Centre has held grants of over £6m since 2008 from EPSRC, AHRC, ESRC, NERC, Innovate UK, Wellcome Trust and the EU, as well as numerous practice-based consultancy research projects. SPE has a proven track record in delivering high quality, high impact research; 88% of its research and 90% of its impact was rated 3 or 4* in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
About you: The post holder will be required to support existing research projects in the Centre as well as developing new projects to enhance SPE research under the themes of healthy places, green infrastructure, climate adaptation and community planning. This will include translating knowledge of advances in the subject area into research activity and collaborating on the development of funding proposals. You should have specialist knowledge of healthy places, green infrastructure, climate adaptation, social justice and/or community planning, and experience with a diversity of social research methods. The post holder will report to Danni Sinnett, Centre Director, and will be expected to interface with researchers in the department and wider Faculty.

This is a fixed-term post for 24 months with potential to extend depending on future research funding, and is full-time working on a 100% contract.
