The Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance at UWE Bristol is seeking to appoint two Senior Lecturers in Economics.
About us: UWE Economics is a pluralist group of economists representing a variety of schools of thought across post-Keynesian, institutional, ecological, political economy, feminist and gender economics, data sciences, regional studies and economic geography. Fostering critical thinking and pluralism are guiding principles of the four undergraduate degrees in BA Economics, BSc Economics, BSc Banking and Finance, and BA Business Management and Economics.
UWE Economics is research-active in both theoretical and policy research across diverse topics including critical macro-finance, industrialisation, migration, labour, history of economic thought, as well as data sciences and economics education. The group has close ties to sociology, politics, law, robotics, and data sciences within UWE Bristol and has close ties with other Southwest universities including Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, and Exeter.
The Accounting Economics and Finance Department hosts the UWE Big Data Lab and is the ONS Secure Research Service regional access hub. Academic staff and students also engage with initiatives such as ‘rethinking’, ‘reteaching’, and decolonising economics and are active in charities, activism, policy work, local community initiatives, placements, and consultancy. Staff are active in contributing to public debates through mainstream media or events such as the Bristol Festival of Ideas. We are looking for individuals interested in contributing to the vibrant and diverse teaching and research environment as well as to wider public and academic debates.
With recent successes in research outputs, funding, and staff and student recruitment, UWE Economics is seeking to grow the group size to reinforce our research-led pluralist curriculum. We are seeking applicants who already are, or have the potential to be, inspirational researchers and educators. Applicants will be keen to shape the future of heterodox economics research debates and have a desire to be involved in shaping the minds of future critical thinkers. We are particularly interested in applications from scholars who can engage across a range of our core areas of teaching and research. Examples of areas of expertise sought include critical micro- and macroeconomics, banking and finance, history of economic thought, economic history and economic reasoning, political economy, econometrics and quantitative methods, qualitative research methods, and development economics.
