About us:
The Faculty of the Environment and Technology have a vacancy for a Mechatronics and Instrumentation Technician to join the wider technical team and which will be based on the university’s Frenchay campus. This post is student facing and provides expert technical support to academics, students and researchers. We have recently moved into a new engineering building with excellent facilities and this is an exciting opportunity to join this enthusiastic team delivering high quality engineering education at UWE.
About you:
The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience of a wide range of mechatronics systems including programming, interfacing equipment with computers and data acquisition. Ideally you will have experience of teaching or mentoring, which is a key part of the role, and be comfortable and confident demonstrating systems and equipment both in a classroom setting and to individuals. You will enjoy problem solving and be enthusiastic about emerging technologies and how the Mechatronics lab may develop to embrace these. You may be asked to work from formal drawings or a simple sketch and, although well supported by others in the technical team, to work on tasks autonomously and without direct supervision.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed – with £300m having been invested recently on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation while incredible new facilities continue to be developed to enhance our offer even further.
Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations, our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities, making our campus the ideal place to work for those commuting to Bristol.
