About us: UWE Bristol’s Department of Architecture and the Built Environment is one of the leading providers of architecture and built environment education, research and knowledge exchange in the country. We are engaged in Knowledge Exchange activities within the city, at The Bristol Architecture Centre, and through applied research. As a result, the Department performs exceptionally well in key performance indicators including the National Student Survey results (100% in some courses), employability (90% plus for many courses) and research (e.g. three major EPSRC grants recently secured).
About you: The Department of Architecture and the Built Environment is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic lecturer in planning and development. The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will contribute to teaching in the areas of planning law, development management and the implementation of planning. The appointee will also need to recognise the importance of development finance, sustainable design, zero-carbon planning, and professional conduct and ethics.
Other duties will depend upon the background of the appointee, who will be expected to make an enthusiastic contribution to the life of the department and faculty. A proven research track record through publication in major conferences and journals, or through practice, is desirable. Membership and engagement with the Royal Town Planning Institute is also desired.
The appointee will be expected to offer pastoral support to the department’s students, including acting as academic personal tutor where appropriate. Experience of student project and dissertation supervision would also be advantageous.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed – £300m has been invested recently on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation while we continue to develop incredible new facilities to enhance our offer even further.
Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations, our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities.
