About the vacancy
Our School of Creative and Cultural Industries brings together colleagues working in humanities, cultural studies and creative practice, covering subject areas including History, English Literature, Linguistics, Filmmaking, Creative Writing, Drama and Photography.
This role is based in the Linguistics, History & Writing cluster which combines the expertise and research of scholars engaged in historical research across a range of geographical areas and time periods, colleagues working out of the Bristol Centre for Linguistics, and the creative excellence of active authors and writers teaching the Creative & Professional Writing programme.
We engage actively with local communities, and with partners around the world, and our Regional History Centre is committed to public engagement and knowledge exchange in local history and heritage, promoting research about the history of Britain's South Western counties and in the understanding of regionalism as a dynamic force in the shaping of the domestic and international past.
We are looking to appoint an historian who enhances our existing research strengths and teaching interests as we diversify our curricula. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic team.
The post has a start date of 1 September 2022. There is the capacity to develop this role into a leadership one within our cluster.
About you
You will be able to deliver outstanding teaching in both face-to-face and online settings and make an enthusiastic contribution to the collegiate life of the subject cluster, school, faculty and university. You will draw on your own research to deliver sessions covering a range of historical approaches in an authentic and engaging manner, and be able to teach at all levels of the undergraduate programme. You will take the lead in developing new and innovative teaching relating to your research expertise, which will include both the development of your own portfolio of modules and contributions to existing modules.
We welcome applications from candidates with a research profile in Global or Transnational history, in any time period. Preference may be given to those whose research and teaching expertise has the potential to expand the range of geographic and/or thematic areas we cover. You will have a track record of research outputs in a relevant area, with publications already completed and the potential to develop future work suitable for inclusion in Research Excellence Framework 2028. It will also be an advantage to have a research profile which aligns to UWE Bristol’s research strategy - details here: https://www.uwe.ac.uk/research/our-research-strategy.
