About us: This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant community of science communication researchers and practitioners who are currently working at the cutting edge of science communication research and practice. The post-holder will design and deliver effective teaching and learning opportunities for the MSc in Science Communication, as well as other postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation level science communication provision across the department. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the continuing professional development (CPD) offering and the research portfolio of the internationally renowned Science Communication Unit, home to a group of over twenty science communication academics, researchers, writers, and PhD students.
The post holder will participate in the design, development and assessment of modules and will be passionate about teaching and providing support to students. Working within a committed and enthusiastic team, the post-holder will contribute to the highly regarded and innovative MSc in Science Communication, undergraduate teaching, and the Science Communication Unit’s continuing professional development (CPD) offering. Preference will be given to applicants who can evidence expertise in either quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies appropriate to science communication, combined with in-depth knowledge of academic theory OR practice in science communication.

About you: Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in science communication or a subject relevant to the post, or to have a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice. We are looking for candidates who have experience of teaching, research and/or practice in science communication, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students, inspiring them to learn. An interest in contributing to and leading the preparation of proposals and applications to secure funding from internal and external sources is also desirable.
We are looking for candidates who align to the UWE values. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate their experience of leading and motivating groups of people, collegiate working and their organisational skills. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they will keep abreast of latest developments in this subject area and external best practice benchmarks.
The successful candidate will be supported in this role by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor. Candidates will be expected to undertake the PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE unless already obtained. The Department provides staff development funds to support personal and subject related training for academic staff.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed – with £300m having been invested recently on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation to enhance our offer even further.
Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations, our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities, making our campus the ideal place to work for those commuting to Bristol.
