About us: We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow on a part-time fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The role holder will oversee two exciting externally-funded research projects focused on improving psychological support and healthcare for individuals born with rare craniofacial conditions and their families. You will be joining an experienced and multidisciplinary team of craniofacial researchers, clinicians, charitable organisations, and public representatives from the UK, USA, and Europe. Some out of hours working will be required due to the time difference between participating institutions.
This role will be based at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR), the world’s largest research group focusing on the role of appearance and body image in people’s lives. As a centre of excellence for psychological and interdisciplinary patient-centred research, CAR’s research and consultancy informs healthcare and education provision, as well as many other areas of society. CAR is situated within the thriving Department of Health and Social Sciences, with a strong national and international reputation for high quality teaching and research with real-world impact.
About you: The role will primarily involve managing the day-to-day running of the two projects alongside our external partners, liaising with other collaborators, and supervising two members of research staff. Knowledge of visible difference, parent-child wellbeing, and/or chronic health conditions is welcome but not essential. Experience of qualitative data analysis is also desired. The role holder will hold a PhD or other relevant doctoral qualification. Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, including charitable organisations, NHS/international clinical teams, public involvement representatives, and/or other research teams is anticipated. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of working in an emerging area of excellence for the university, and could also offer an opportunity for a Research Fellow to progress.
