We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Mentor in our Access and Learning Strategies team within the Library’s Learning Services, based at our Frenchay campus in Bristol.
About the vacancy:
Supporting students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, you will deliver high quality one-to-one specialist mentoring, particularly for neurodivergent students (e.g. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and those on the autism spectrum) as well as those with mental health needs. You will help students to develop appropriate learning strategies, techniques and capabilities to meet their individual needs.
The role will involve working closely with other Specialist Mentors, Specialist Study Skills Tutors, and Senior Practitioners within the Access and Learning Strategies team, as well as with other colleagues across Learning Services, particularly in relation to facilitation of group workshops, drop-ins and other new initiatives.
You will need to demonstrate commitment to inclusive practice and consideration of diverse audiences. We are working hard to develop our practice in order to support the university ambitions to reduce and eradicate any awarding gaps, and particularly welcome applicants who will be able to demonstrate commitment and ability to help us with this.
About you:
You will be a qualified Specialist Mentor holding the appropriate level of professional body membership of at least one of the 18 recognised professional membership bodies listed in the DfE Disabled Students’ Allowances mandatory qualifications and professional body membership requirements You will have experience of mentoring, supporting and helping students to build their confidence and develop their learning strategies in order to meet the demands of studying in higher education. You will have general education to degree level or equivalent. You will also ideally have a relevant postgraduate qualification, or equivalent. You will be able to evidence engagement with regular and relevant CPD.
As a member of the Library’s Learning Services, you will be part of a strong and collaborative community of professional specialists and librarians, and central to the design and delivery of innovative, high quality student support.

This is a part-time permanent all year round position working 22.5 hours per week.
The University’s normal practice is that new appointments will be made at the starting point of the grade.
