Science Communication and Engagement Manager – 4 year contract – 22.5 hoursAbout us: The Science Communication Unit (SCU) at UWE Bristol is recognised for internationally leading research, creative approaches to practice and outstanding teaching. SCU research seeks to bring science and society closer together, and as such we have a core interest in developing research which is societally-relevant and developed in conjunction with those who practice science communication. Our portfolio of activities is extensive, including innovative approaches to engaging diverse publics with science.About the vacancy: We now have a vacancy to join the unit as a Communication and Engagement Manager working on the COALESCE project, funded by the European Commission and UKRI. This project will focus on the translation of research undertaken in earlier European Commission-funded science communication projects, RETHINK, CONCISE, ENJOI, ParCos, GlobalSCAPE, QUEST, TRESCA and NEWSERA, into practice. COALESCE will consolidate, further develop, and mainstream knowledge generated from these projects and create a European Competence Centre for Science Communication, of which the SCU will be the only UK partner. This post will provide an excellent opportunity to extend your science communication expertise and develop your profile within the science communication community across Europe.

About you: Candidates will be expected to have expertise and experience in a communication or engagement role. We are looking for candidates with a background in and broad knowledge of communication in a range of different contexts including on websites and social media, as well as the creation of innovative multimedia content. Experience of event organisation and management would also be an advantage, as would experience in the development and implementation of communication strategies.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of devising and delivering communication material, managing their time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met. They will be able to build and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally with different partners and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of communication activities. Knowledge of and experience in the science communication sector would be an advantage.
We are looking for candidates who align to the UWE values. The successful candidate will be supported in this role by experienced staff within the Science Communication Unit team who are also involved with the COALESCE project.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus. However, this post may also occasionally involve meeting with project partners and stakeholders overseas as well as organising events in different countries across Europe.
Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations. Our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities, making our campus the ideal place to work for those commuting to Bristol.
