About us: We are currently expanding our Games Technology activities in the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technology (CSCT) at UWE Bristol, and we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Games Technology. This area is well established in CSCT, we offer a BSc in Games Technology which attracts around 300 applicants a year for 85 places and a MSc programme. Maintaining and developing links with industry is at the forefront of our activities. Over the past 5 years we have worked alongside Rolls Royce, ClairCity, Samsung, Sony, Aardman and many independents. Games Technology is also home to our internal games studio ‘PlayWest’ and has many connections with the University’s technology and innovation hub - The Foundry.
CSCT is a rapidly expanding department with about 110 academic staff and over 1,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students. It offers a state if the art range of programmes in a wide range of computing disciplines.
About you: Candidates for this post should possess, as a minimum, a BSc in Games Technology or a closely related discipline. A post-graduate qualification and experience with research is desirable, as is significant industry experience working directly in the Games Industry.
We are looking for someone who has expertise in one or more of the following areas: gameplay programming; game engines, casual and serious game applications and game design.
As the primary focus of this role will be teaching, and we would expect the candidate to have a genuine desire/passion to teach about Games Technology. We are also looking to grow our commercial and research activities, and as such we are keen to encourage applications from candidates who have a proven track record of commercial games projects and obtaining funding within the industry.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed – £300m has been invested recently on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation while we continue to develop incredible new facilities to enhance our offer even further.
Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations, our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities
