About this role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated research laboratory Technician to join the Research Technical team within the College of Health, Science and Society. The post is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave, and will work closely with team members, other technical teams, researchers & academic staff to support a wide variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral research laboratory activity across the School of Applied Sciences.
About you
You will have extensive experience of working in a research laboratory environment in a large, complex organisation. You will have a background in biology, bio-chemistry or a related life sciences subject, plus experience of day to day laboratory management, including consumables inventory & ordering, delivery of laboratory inductions and the operation, maintenance & support of a range of common laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to pH meters, analytical balances, PCR cyclers, multimode microplate readers, CO2 incubators, lights microscopes and associated imaging systems.
You will also have a good working knowledge of laboratory health and safety regulations, including experience of writing and reviewing COSHH risk assessments. The ability to communicate both verbally and through demonstration, of practical techniques to staff and students within the organisation is essential to the role.

This is a full -time, fixed-term post until April 2025 (12 months) or earlier return of the post holder, working 37 hours per week.
